WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  PEACE AND QUIET

Many of us long for peace and quiet in the middle of a world that is anything but calm. God’s voice, the enemy’s voice, social media, TV, billboards, work, responsibilities, bills, dirty dishes, laundry, family and other people all fight for our attention. At times life can get hectic, we can be pulled in many directions at once. Big decisions often need to be made as we approach the deadline for such decisions, it is easy to allow many voices to pull us in every direction.

In order for us to see our way clear we must quiet the voices. Alone time with God will help quiet noise and give us peace. Remove all distractions. Having God’s peace wash over us may take some time of meditation. Quiet time with God takes us being vulnerable with him and allowing him to speak to our soul.

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: From him cometh my salvation.

He will save our souls from hell. But he saves us from so much more, over-analyzing, fear, and anxiety. He will come into the middle of our storms and speak peace be still. Like he did the natural storms when the disciples were in the boat and afraid. He can take our troubles and trials and even if we are in the middle and give us peace to walk through whatever we are facing.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

This is a powerful instruction from the Lord. In our modern lives we feel it means to get somewhere quiet and meditate. Which is a good practice. Quiet time with God is always a good idea.

However, during the time this was written Israel was at war. God is not saying to be still or rest. God wanted them to cease their fight and look to him. He wanted them to see him for who he was, their God. How many times in the bible did God say things like he would fight our battles. He would go before us and fight. We do not have to fight but just go out worshipping like Jehosophat did, and his enemies destroyed one another. That was not because of the army or Jehosophat, but because of their God.

When he says be still and know that I am God, he is saying to us. You can trust me. You don’t have to worry or fret. All the struggles do not have to be, but you can give them to me and just rest in your knowledge that I will not leave you. In other words, I have your back.

Romans 8:31-33 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

He wants us to understand that he has us in his hand and he will give us what we need. We can rest safely in the assurance that He is there and will always be there.

When he says be still and know, he means for us to stop and pay attention to what we already know of his character. We may be in the battle of our lives, but we can have peace in the chaos if we stop and acknowledge that he is God.

This is how we get the peace and quiet in a world full of all sorts of noise.
