WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING
THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE: PROMISES
Often as Christians we pray about our needs and those of friends and family. We pray believing for an answer. Many sermons have been preached about believing God to supply our needs. We can depend on him to keep his promises. Not only to provide for us but all of his wonderful promises.
Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
This says all our needs, it doesn’t say some or just the ones he wants to provide. But provision doesn’t always come like we think. When I think about provision, I think about the widow woman. God gave her a miracle through Elisha. She explained her situation about losing her son. Elisha asked her what she had in her house. She had only the pot of oil. He told her to barrow as many empty vessels as she could find. She then was to go inside and shut the door and pour out the oil into the other vessels. God multiplied what little she had and filled many vessels. She was able to take that oil and sell it to pay her debt. God supplied her needs and he will take care of his people.
Jesus told his followers that God understood we have need of food and raiment. He is not ignorant to our needs. We can trust God will take care of us.
We have no reason to worry. Worry is not faith. Being content in the day we are living is what God expects. He will provide for needs tomorrow also when tomorrow arrives. His hand is not short. Part of contentment is being thankful for what God has given us. He is Jehovah Jireh which translates as “The Lord will provide.”
Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
If he is our shepherd we will not lack. We will have all we need. We sometimes forget that he is in charge, he will provide. The shepherd is responsible for every aspect of care for the sheep. They protect their sheep from predators. Shepherds are responsible for health and well-being of their flock. They lead them to food.
2 Cor. 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
We can count on him being true and faithful to his word. This is how our faith in God grows. When we can learn to take him at his word.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Another promise is one of peace. He will take the chaos of the world and leave us with a peace that the world doesn’t understand or could attain.
Deut. 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
God has promised to not fail us or forsake us. He will be there to catch us when we fall. He will be there to provided strength and peace.
The point of the episode today, to remind you that we can feel safe putting our trust in God. He will never betray that trust. He is loving and caring toward us. He keeps all of his promises.
