WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  STEPS

Have you ever been in a place you question what is going on with your life? You are doing all the Christian things. You are praying every day for guidance. Then you realize that somewhere along the line you have taken back control from God. We surrender our lives when we become saved. We tell God, you are now Lord of my life. But slowly we take back control and start making our own choices. Maybe Paul was trying to tell us every day we must surrender control. That is why he said I die daily.

There is never a time we should get ahead of God because then we are leading and not following. We are not leaders of Christ but followers.

Psalm 37:23-24The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

I can see a young child at the beach trying to step everywhere their father had stepped. Because his height is greater it is hard for the child to step that far. They almost have to jump to reach the next step. We sometimes have to take a leap of faith that God will lead us as we go. We do not know what each step will bring into focus. We must trust God.

Be not weary in well doing, if we continue we will reap the reward. Allowing Jesus to be our guide we cannot go wrong. But sometimes he says, stand still and we have to wait on Him. He will always refresh us if we wait on him.

In other words trust in the Lord, don’t follow our thoughts or ideas, in everything we do we must acknowledge him and he will keep us on the right path.

Prov 3:5-8  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

As we acknowledge him in every aspect of our lives, he will give us direction and guidance. We have to keep our heart set on Jesus. If we can keep our heart right and focused on the things of God then it makes it easier for God to direct our steps, because we want to go where he leads us.

Prov 16:9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

Every day our prayer should be Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Being a goal-oriented person who loves a to do list, it is hard for me to give up control, even to God. I often have way more on my list than I can accomplish in a day. I struggle at times finding quiet time alone with God, except in my car. The Lord and I have some good times driving along. The quiet time alone with God is how we gain strength. I can always tell when I haven’t had enough quiet time. I can see that I am starting to take back control. When this happens I have to have a long talk with my Lord and tell him that I surrender all, all over again.

Then he will reach down and fill up the empty places in my thirsty soul, before encouraging me to once more go out and reach the lost before it’s too late. You too can surrender it all to God once again. He is waiting to guide your steps, if you will let him.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

The title of today’s episode: LEARNING TO TRUST

During the Friday night prayer meeting, I heard my friend Bonnie pray, “Oh, God, are we praying away the very storms we need?” Over the past few days, I have been thinking about the storms we need and the ones we don’t.

When God allows a storm in our life it will strengthen us and help us to grow. Some are God sent to shake us and wake us out of our slumber. He wants us to learn to trust him in a deeper way. Others are more sinister in nature, they are sent from our enemy to cause us to fall into sin, or at least into a spiritual slumber. He hopes the pounding waves will cause us to fall into fear and not trust our God.

Discernment will show us the difference. Once we know who is sending the storm, we can determine what to do about it. If it is God sent, then we pray for understanding. Learning the lesson is harder, it will tell us how to is listening to the voice of God?

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

In order to survive the storms, we need a solid foundation. The Lord is our rock, our foundation. The core of our belief system that gives us solid footing.

A fortress is a place with walls, often towns or cities. It is strongly reinforced or fortified to make it strong against enemy attacks. It is not easily influenced by outside forces. The Lord will build a hedge around us to protect us from the attacks of our enemy.

My deliverer, God is there to remove the danger from our enemy. Things may appear to us to be dangerous and cause us to fall into fear if we are not careful. Fully trusting in God will help us to realize that he has already removed the danger from our situations. We just have to trust in him to see it play out or manifest in our lives.

My God, My strength, in whom I will Trust. God is the strength of our life. He will help us to keep going even when we do not think we can go another step.

My Buckler- A buckler is a small shield worn on the forearm. God is our shield. He will protect us from the darts of deception and the rest of the things in the enemy’s arsenal.

Horn of salvation is another reference for God. David said God was his horn of salvation, which meant he delivered him and empowered him. The ram’s horn was used for many things like calling the assembly together to hear the word of God. To sound the alarm to go to battle. They stored anointing oil in horns and would pour them out. One example would be when a prophet would anoint someone to be king. It gave that person authority to lead the people.

After breaking down just one verse we can see how God is everything we need. Storms bring darkness; Jesus is the light. Storms bring floods sometimes, but Jesus is that wall that will not allow us to be swept away by swift water.

Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.

When our enemy comes in like a flood. It seems like there is no direction to turn without being overtaken with his attack. God will raise up a standard, against him. A standard is a gauge in which everything is measured. It is what is considered the norm. I have heard that in the context of this verse that a standard is a flood wall that will be strong enough to hold back the flood and protect us. It is a measure set so that everyone knows the level that is normal and when that level is exceeded.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will set a gauge that says this is the limit, you can come no further. Which compares to God being our fortress. He puts up walls of protection against our enemy.

When faced with a storm, we need to remember Jesus is the one who can calm any storm. To us, in a small boat with huge crashing waves, it may appear scary. But we need to learn how to TRUST, even in the storm. We see the big scary waves; we see how things appear to us. The enemy will come along and whisper his lies. You are going to drown; your boat is going to sink. You are going to die today. But Jesus says, have faith in me, I am your standard, your protection, you will live and not die today, you will not drown or capsize. I am with you.

Prov 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

What will you say to and about your storm? The words out of your mouth will determine the outcome. Whose report are you going to believe? Will your boat be capsized in the storm, leaving you to struggle to stay afloat? Will you speak the words of Jesus and lean on him?

The power is in our mouth. Follow me for just another moment.

Matt 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Jesus was speaking to the overly religious people of his day. Our mouth will speak what is within our hearts. We have to learn to trust God in our hearts in order to speak trust, love, peace, joy or speak in defiance of the enemy. Getting God’s word within our hearts will give us the strength to withstand the storms of life.

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Just reach out today and thank him for his peace. Hold on to his hand, and he will pull you out of the darkest storms. Worship, can roll away a lot of storm clouds and help us to see S-O-N shine. Once our storm clouds roll away, we can take our light and be a light in someone else’s storms.

EPISODE 74–FRET NOT, TRUST AND COMMIT

Hello My Friends:

Welcome to God Focus this morning. The title of today’s episode is “Fret Not, Trust And Commit.”

In the first part of Psalms 37 is a lot of wisdom. As our country faces major issues, we should not fear what the enemy is doing.

Psalm 37:1-9 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

This word tells us to not be afraid of evildoers. God is our protector and will take care of us. We are not supposed to be envious of those who are doing evil. Several synonyms for envious: Jealous, resentful, spiteful, covetous, bitter.

We are not to be jealous that they have wealth and power. We are not to be resentful that things seem to be going their way for now. We cannot allow hate to take root in our hearts toward them. We cannot covet what they have or be bitter toward them, even though they are doing evil. Because God will deal with them.

Psalm 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

God will only allow evil to seem to have the upper hand so long. Once He has exhausted everything to get them to turn from their evil, he will cut them off. Look at Pharoah, God gave him at least ten chances when he sent the plagues, to change and stop his evil against the children of Israel.  But he did not change, so God drown him and his army in the Red Sea.

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

We are told not to worry, fear or fret over these things. We are to Trust and Do Good. We need to believe God. When he tells us he will deliver us from the enemy we need to trust that word. We are to go about our lives and keep doing good. Not allowing the fear that the enemy would like to put on us to overtake us. If we trust and do good, we will be taken care of and will have what we need.

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Many think this is a blank check for what they want. False preachers will tell you God will give you all sorts of monetary wealth and the things money can buy.  But God is not a genie in a bottle to grant us expensive cars and material things.  They skip the first part that says to delight in the Lord. Delight means to please someone, take joy, find happiness.  If we find happiness and joy of being in God’s presence, that is to take delight. If we delight in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our hearts, because our hearts will align with God’s will for our lives. He can and will provide what we need. It is all about aligning our desires with the heart of God.

Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

He wants us to commit ourselves to Him. When we commit ourselves to God it means we pledge, devote or dedicate our lives to following His leading. We bind our life to Him. If we are truly following Him, He will bring to pass good things in our lives.

Psalm 37:6-7 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

These two verses summarize the above verses. He tells us to be patient and not worry or fear. We are to not be shaken by what the enemy is doing. Because at the right time, God will bring down the evil.

Psalm37:8-9 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

Do not be angry or in any way do evil. We are to walk upright and wait on the Lord. He will take care of his people, no matter how things appear. The enemy will not win as long as we Fret Not, Trust In God and Commit our way to him.

I suggest you read the entire chapter of Psalm 37. It is full of encouragement to know God is on our side and will take care of His people. For time’s sake, I am going to skip to the last two verses of the chapter, verses 39 -40.

Psalm 37:39-40 But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Why does He deliver us? Because we trust in Him. If we truly trust Him, we will commit our lives to following Him and will not fear what the enemy will do. Be strong and have faith that our God will do what He has promised. He is not a man who can lie. If He says it will happen, it is going to happen.

Until next time,

Have a wonderful day.
