WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  WHAT A DIFFERENCE

What a difference a day can make. People often use this phrase; I was thinking this morning about how quickly circumstances can change. Especially when we are relying on God.

Look at the different circumstances in the word of God. Jesus had been crucified and was buried. It seemed like things could not get any darker or sadder for his followers. Then Sunday morning came and they found out that he was alive. Things often look the darkest before the miracle.

Things looked dark and scary for Jehosphat. He had not one army, not two armies but three armies that wanted to destroy him. The eve of battle looked scary. But God had a plan and told Jehosophat to send the worshippers first. Because God knew by the time they got to the battlefield that the enemies would have destroyed one another.

It looked like there was no hope for Daniel. When he was tossed into the middle of a den of lions. But God intervened on his behalf and the lion’s did not harm him.  But the next day his enemies were tossed into the den and the lions destroyed the ones that plotted against Daniel.

What the enemy plans to use to destroy us, God will turn it for our good and leave us a blessing. While we are relying on God the enemy is congratulating himself thinking he has won. But he finds out quickly he is a loser.

Look how God turned things around for Esther and her nemesis Haman hung on gallows he built for Mordecai. We cannot be discouraged when things look like they are not going our way. When we are at the point, we feel like giving up. We feel the enemy is going to win. That is when we need to hold on the tightest. Because we are positioned for breakthrough.

When things seem the darkest, hold on daybreak will bring light to the situation and we will have new hope.  All our hope is in Jesus and he can take our brokenness and make us whole. Many times, he is the only one that can turn around our circumstances. When we find ourselves in the middle of a dark storm. We must keep in mind how God can turn around our situations quickly. But sometimes it takes walking through the darkness to find the light.

When storm clouds are looming on the horizon, we can look to Jesus and he will roll the storm clouds away, in some cases. In other times he will give us strength to get through the storm. Circumstances will look scary at times and that is when the enemy comes to plant doubt.

I am sure he told the disciples that Jesus would not arise from the dead. He probably told Jehosophat that he was riding into the middle of an ambush, that he would not survive. The enemy could have whispered in Esther’s ear that no matter what she did, Haman would destroy her people. More than likely the enemy tried to place fear on Daniel that the lions would rip him to pieces. It is his job to create worse case scenarios. He wants to destroy our faith in God.

Trusting God in the darkest times will propel us to the place that breakthrough happens. We will see the break of dawn if we will only put our trust in him. Then we too can say with conviction, what a difference a day makes when we spend that day believing God. It is in the dark days that we walk through that we find our strength and draw closer to our God.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:   THE WAIT

There is a quote that says time flies when you are having fun. When you are sitting in a doctor’s office or stuck in traffic, that seems to be true. These things are not fun and time doesn’t fly. It is not fun being forced to wait. Wait is a word that no one likes to hear, especially from God. In order for him to get things to align as they need to it takes time.

God understands we learn things in the wait. The wait develops spiritual fruit in our lives. The fruit of patience and meekness.  It doesn’t do anyone good to complain about the wait in the doctor’s office or in traffic. It only makes us feel worse and more frustrated.

When it comes to the situations in life that we have asked God for an answer, and he says, “wait”. The answer must be accepted, we cannot speak words of negativity. The proper thing to do is to trust, and worship in the wait.

We often have situations in our lives that we feel needs an urgent answer from God. But he says wait. In his wisdom he already has the outcome figured out. He sees circumstances we do not, instead of giving us the quick answer we want he has a better outcome on the other side of wait. We need to thank him for every time he said, “no” or “wait” because they were for our good. Even the “no’s” and “not yet” are for our good.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Some things do not feel like they are for our good. For example: some may ask how losing a loved one can be for our good. It is hard for our human understanding to grasp that it teaches us things about ourselves.  We learn we are stronger than first believed. We often find purpose on the other side of the pain. We need to understand that maybe God was working out the good for our loved one.

Life is temporary and so is our times of adversity. The ultimate purpose for our lives is to get to know God and help those we meet to know and understand him in a more meaningful way. But that sometimes means we have to walk through a time that God says, not yet will I reveal the answer.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

If we wait on him, our strength will be renewed. He will bring us to a place of joy. Since joy is our strength we find strength in the waiting.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

When God says wait, he is not denying our answer, he is telling us he is working out our situation. He has promised to give us strength in the wait.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  IN THE MIDDLE

We are often caught between good and evil. We are doing all we can to walk into our integrity and make godly choices. But there is a battle being raged. The enemy is plotting to tear us down to overthrow the king on the throne of our heart. We do not have to let the enemy win. We can overcome, as long as we stand strong on our faith. The more the enemy tries to destroy us the more God will intervene as long as we lean on him. But today’s episode is not about fighting temptation, it is about standing strong when the enemy is out to destroy you because you are doing the right thing.

In the book of Esther there is a story of Mordecai that illustrates my point.  Mordecai refused to bow to Haman, an evil man that had manipulated his way into being the second in command of the kingdom. In his arrogance he asked that the king issue a decree that people must bow to him.

Haman came upon Mordecai and he didn’t bow to Haman. They had a discussion about Mordecai’s reason. He told Haman he only bowed to his God. Haman was angry because he would not give him the attention that he felt like he deserved. The anger festered and soon Haman decided to build a gallows for Mordecai to be hung on. He thought he would get satisfaction out of seeing Mordecai destroyed.

One night while Haman was building a gallows, the king couldn’t sleep. He asked that the records of kingdom business be read. As they were being read there was a note of how Mordecai had stopped a plot by two doorkeepers to assassinate the king.

The next morning he questioned what was done for Mordecai as a thank you. He discovered nothing was done. The king asked Haman, what should be done for a man that he desired to honor.

Haman in his arrogance thought the king was talking about him. So he told to the king, the man should be paraded through the street on the king’s horse, wearing the king’s robe. The person leading the horse will yell this is the man the king desires to honor. Haman wanted to be king. He thirsted for power and to be thought highly of, this is why Mordecai bothered him, because Mordecai reminded him he was not that important.

The king told him to do what he had said for a man named Mordecai. I am sure that Haman wanted to scream. He must have realized, at that moment, that the king would not allow him to hang Mordecai.

Even though Mordecai was honored that day, he was still at risk from the decree to kill all the Jews. Later that evening the king and Haman went to the banquet given by the queen called Esther. She asked the king to give her power over her people. They were in danger of being slaughtered. The king ask who was plotting to kill her people and she said evil Haman. He was hung on the gallows he built for Mordecai.

Mordecai was saved from the gallows and the decree to kill the Jews.  This was because he stood his ground and would not bow down to a man. The lesson’s to take away from the story of Mordecai is to honor the one true God no matter what happens. Walk in integrity and do the right thing and God will save you from the plots of the evil one.

The next time it feels like the enemy is plotting against you to destroy you think of Mordecai. Stand strong in your faith, look to God and bow only to him. Remember that God will stop the evil plots of the enemy against us if we rely on him and resist the enemy.

We do not have to feel caught in the middle. There is not a plot that the enemy can create that God cannot reverse. He will take care of his people.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  Assurance

As children of God, we have many assurances in his word. We have every reason to be encouraged that he will work things our for our good. The skies may be grey and storms may be on the horizon, but he will not allow us to be overtaken by them. He has promised to uphold us with his hand.

Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

We can fall and he will pick us up. He will not leave us. He will not abandon his people.

Psalm 138:8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

We strive to be in a place that we learn to lean on Jesus. We cannot fall into a place that the voice of the enemy is louder than God’s voice.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

How do the sheep know the voice of the shepherd? Because they spend countless hours with the sheep. They nurture and take care of them. The sheep know where their source of life comes from, their shepherd feeds them, leads them to water, looks for them when lost and protects them from predators.

We too can rely on our shepherd to protect us from the enemy that wants to destroy us. He would like nothing more than to devour our souls. But Jesus our shepherd is there to watch over us and make sure that we are not overtaken by the enemy. He gives us strength and leads us to a place of peace.

When you think about how blessed we are that God sends his angels to watch over us and keep us safe. There is nothing the enemy can do to overtake us as long as we do not give up or give in to him. He cannot overpower us, but he can make us want to give up. At the moments we feel weakest we have to allow our powerful God to stand and fight for us.  He will not allow us to be overtaken as long as we lean on him and do not surrender our will to the enemy.

If we allow negative words to come out of our mouths, words of defeat and surrender, God cannot fight for us if we have surrendered.  So let this be a reminder that we have to fight the good fight of faith. Watch our mouths and not allow the enemy to get us to surrender. God will go before us and fight as long as we look to him.

He is our hope, our strength, our assurance of victory, our peace, our healer, our provider. He is all we need. We must follow his voice and allow him to be our shepherd. He will always lead us to the right place.

I just wanted to remind

that we have hope in the middle of the darkness of this world. Our hope is in Jesus.  He will lift us up when we fall. He will see us safely home. We have assurance that we will never walk alone.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  WHAT CAN I DO?

I often sit staring at a blank screen, praying for God to pour into me what he wants me to share with all of you. Sometimes inspiration comes immediately and the daily posts write themselves. Other times I have to do research and pray for guidance. I am inspired by all the little children I see on social media with deep messages for their age.

I Tim 4:12-16 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

The word doesn’t say how old Timothy was when he received this letter. It is good advice for any age. We are not to neglect the gift of God within us. We are to meditate on the things of God and give ourselves fully to them. If we stick to the old paths God will bless us. We will be a light and beacon to the lost that hear us.

We don’t have to be a certain age to win the lost to Christ. Some feel if they are not called to be a preacher, teacher, worship leader that they can’t do anything for the cause of Christ. But there are many things we do every day that further the gospel. The most important is to live our life with integrity and stand upon the foundation we have been given; Jesus our solid rock.

People often feel if they cannot do a huge thing that there is no reason to do anything. But our God took two fish and five barley loaves and fed over five thousand men, not counting their wives and children. God can take our small acts of dedication and multiply them to bless and deliver many.

I once heard a story of a woman that was sick and stayed in bed most of the time. A lot of people in her position would say, there is nothing I can do to further the cause of Christ. She however, picked up the telephone and started dialing her area code and exchange then 0000, the next call 0001. When the phone was answered she would ask them if they knew Jesus?  I can’t remember the amount of people that she reached before she died. But many people got their start on their faith journey because one woman picked up the phone.

What can you do today? What is God nudging you to do? Make no mistake about it there is something we all can do to help others find Jesus. That is our mission and purpose for existing.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

The world right now is anything but hopeful. The news is full of doom and gloom. The holiday season is often depressing to those who do not have hope. As we let our hope arise within us and start to share it, others will wonder how we can have hope in a world of darkness. This is how we share the gospel; without the hope of Jesus, we would be just as miserable as everyone else.

The question to ask is, what can I do to further the gospel? Then pray about it and God will show you. Little is much when God blesses it.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  THE DEAL

Most everyone has seen the game show Let’s Make A Deal. The contestants have different curtains to choose from. Each one contains a prize or a Zonk. If you get the Zonk it means you don’t get the big prize. People often have a good prize in their hands and choose to risk it all for a bigger prize. The only thing is that prize is not guaranteed.

Still time and again they allow greed to override their good judgment and end up with nothing. This is us standing in front of things the enemy offers, we really don’t know what we are getting until the curtain opens and it’s too late.

We have the ultimate prize of God’s freedom, peace and fellowship, yet we risk it for a lesser prize of sin or temptation that turns out to be a zonk. There is nothing in this life satan can offer that would come close to comparing to what God has done for us. It doesn’t matter what we are facing in life, we need to keep pressing on to the prize that Jesus gives. We do not have time to be distracted by the enemy’s lies and deception.

If he can not draw us into sin then he will try to slow us down in other ways.  He doesn’t want us to run the race that God has set before us. Satan doesn’t want us to get to the finish line strong. He wants to discourage us and get us to give up.

Isaiah 50:7 For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

The phrase set my face like a flint, means I will have unwavering, unyielding determination to keep fighting the good fight of faith. Even if we have to do it from a place of what seems like weakness.  When we are weak God is strong, he alone will not allow us to be overtaken by our enemy. We just have to fight our flesh to not give up. God will send angels to fight for us.

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

To be in God’s presence for all eternity is a prize worth fighting for, so don’t settle for a consolation prize from the enemy.

GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING EP543–TRUTH IS STRONGER THAN LIES

CLICK ABOVE FOR VIDEO VERSION

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  TRUTH IS STRONGER THAN LIES

The truth is always stronger than a lie. In the face of truth, a lie will always fail and fall short. But still our enemy tries to create doubt and make us want to turn to a lie.

Prov 12:22  Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

The word specifically says that lying lips are an abomination.  What does that mean exactly? Abomination means disgrace, something that causes disgust or hatred. God hates lies.

Prov 12:17-18 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. 18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

Because our heavenly father is the God of Truth. When we speak truth, it honors our God. Lies can be harmful like being pierced with a sword. The words of the righteous are health and life.

As his children, everything we say needs to bring honor to God. We must walk with integrity and in the power of his love and truth. Our words have power. Many times, I have told you that our words are life.

Exposure of lies and half-truths always happens when the truth comes to light. God’s truth will always set us free from any bondage created by a lie.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Lies tie people up, haven’t you ever heard of a web of lies. Some people get so wrapped up in lies they can not remember them all. Deception has its own stress. But when you speak truth, you don’t have to keep up with the lies. Remember truth is stronger than lies.

Psalm 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

This is what we must do as children of God. Not only are we to not speak lies but it also says not to speak guile, which means to be sly or cunning. Speak in order to manipulate someone.

The enemy is the master of manipulation. He can take the truth and twist it just enough that it sounds like the truth. This is why we have to ask God for his discernment. His spirit will lead us the way we must go. As long as we follow his lead we will know the truth and it will shatter all of satan’s lies.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  COMPLETE IN CHRIST

Everything we will ever need is in Christ Jesus. He has saved us in every way from sickness, sin and death.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

When we give our lives to Christ for the first time we become a new creature. Our old life and way of doing things have passed away, and who we are becomes new. We have a new path laid out before us. One of truth and honor. But the enemy will try to get us to fall into a place that we lack integrity. He will do everything he can to draw us back into the sinful life we had before Christ.

Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

The enemy will try to get us to doubt ourselves, doubt our salvation, doubt every choice we make in life. But the answers we need are all in him. Complete means entire and full. The fullness of the godhead is in him. The fullness of everything we need is in him.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The life we live now is by our faith in Christ because he gave his life for us. The work of the cross completed the plan for everything we would ever need. We have no reason to allow fear to overtake us. Fear comes from our enemy. If we are complete in Christ there is no room for fear or anxiety. Every time the enemy comes with his fear, send him away with a reminder that you have no reason to fear, because you are complete in Christ.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  GUARD THE GATE

Why do we want what we know we can’t have? This is the age-old question. For example, when you decide you’re going to try to cut back to lose weight, suddenly you want to eat everything in sight. It’s like you are afraid you are going to starve to death.

Some of the motivation is fear, some of it is not wanting to be without what we need. But when the temptation is to sin, it is an attack of the enemy. He paints a pretty picture of how things would be better if you do what you know you shouldn’t.

Look how he approached Eve with questions that made her wonder if God really said they couldn’t eat of the tree. He made her question God’s motivation.  Until she got it in her heart that they should have the knowledge of good and evil. He painted a picture for her that God was trying to hold her back and keep her from knowing the truth.

God always makes a way for us to escape the temptations of the enemy. They are lies, Satan tries to manipulate, he is a master at making us think we can’t live without that cake, that drink or whatever he is tempting us with. We have to be stronger than the lies.

Changing our focus from where we are to where we want to be remembering  that truth is stronger than lies. The light of truth shines on the lies of the enemy and evil is exposed. Often it is said that the mind is where the battle is fought. What gets past the mind enters our hearts. The mind is the gateway to control over our entire being. Think about it this way, whoever controls the gate to a city, controls the city.

As children of God, we must make sure that the holy ghost is the one guarding the gate to our minds. If we keep our god focus and allow the holy ghost to lead, we will not be destroyed by the enemy, because he will not get past the gate.

Spiritual fortification comes through our faith. We put on our armor according to Ephesians chapter six and resist the enemy. As long as God is our focus, we will be strong. Using the word as our weapon.

Prov 25:28  He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Think about a city without walls, it can be easily over ran by the enemy. This is why it is necessary to fortify our walls against the attacks of the enemy. Stand strong in defense of the gate of your being. We will prevail over all the lies of the enemy, as long as we put our trust in God.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  VESSEL OF USE

God chooses the ordinary with something special inside. He looks for those who will be vessels that he can use. Think about Jesus’ disciples, he chose fishermen, a tax collector, a physician, and one that was a scam artist. Each one had a job to do. Each one was different in their upbringing and abilities.

Over time he molded and shaped their lives. He took them from ordinary vessels to extraordinary vessels. All that growth happened during the firing process.  They learned to have faith while Jesus walked with them, but that faith was tested in the furnace of life after Jesus ascended.

We often talk about the three Hebrew men that were thrown into the fiery furnace. It had been turned up seven times hotter than normal. We walked into the middle of their story. We didn’t see all that happened in their lives to give them the strength to say, we are vessels of use to Jehovah.  We will not bow to an idol; we don’t care if it is the law of the land. We don’t care that it can mean death.  We only worship Jehovah.

How many trials had they walked through previously that gave them that boldness. They were individuals that had consecrated their lives to live for Jehovah. They would not betray him just because the politician in charge, the king said so.

How do we get to be vessels God uses? We prove that we are worthy to be used by getting to know the God of the universe.  He created each of us for a purpose.  Many never fulfill that purpose because they choose to not follow God or his path for them. But we have chosen to follow him.  He will not allow us to sit on the shelf too long.

Is 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

He has promised to be with us and to not allow us to be overtaken. We can be sure he will go with us and not allow the enemy to prevail. All he asks of us is to be willing vessels of honor and integrity. Ones that will follow him and not bow to the world.

2 Tim 2:20-22 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.  21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.  22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

It doesn’t matter what the vessel looks like what matters is the heart.  Is the heart pure and willing to be obedient? Because God cannot use a vessel that wants to do their own thing. Imagine a pitcher telling the potter, you cannot use me right now to serve iced tea, I plan on holding water and some flowers.  There is nothing wrong with either thing. But by wanting to hold water and flowers, the pitcher is not doing what the designer chooses (it is being disobedient).
