WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  FINDING SURRENDER

We often think about total surrender to the will of God as an amazing place. But our flesh wants to fight against that perfect place. In the surrender is everything we will ever need, God’s peace, joy, strength, salvation, hope and love. The struggle is not a new one but is as old as Adam and Eve. They lost their surrender to God when they ate of the tree that God told them to not eat. Their disobedience led to our struggles today.

Even Jesus prayed, let this cup pass from me. The man part of Jesus didn’t want to endure the pain and suffering. Then he did what we all need to learn to do more easily, he surrendered his will to the Father. He said not my will but yours be done.

Surrender to God and his will is not a one-time thing. Many feels like when they repent and ask Jesus to be Lord of their life that they have surrendered. That is just the beginning of our surrender. It is an everyday, several times a day thing. We have to strengthen our inner man. While our freshly one is kicking and screaming, wanting control.

Surrender is extremely hard for type A personalities, ones that are used to being in control. Intellectually we understand that God is good and only has our best interests at heart. We know we can trust him to take care of us and give us a good outcome. We understand he can give us a better outcome than we can get on our own. We know he is loving and will not do anything to be cruel. Yet we find ourselves pulling back out of fear.

Reading the Psalms you will see David struggled with surrender at times. He fell down; he committed sin. Yet he was a man after God’s heart, because he worshiped and surrendered a large portion of the time to God and his will.

The closer we get to God the less people are going to understand us. But by following a little closer and surrendering more, we will be better equipped to do the work of the Lord, thus being a help to those around us.

How do we get to that surrender? How do we stay there? These questions are hard to answer.

Surrender means recognizing we need to humble ourselves before God and yield to his authority. Give up our control and deny our person ambitions.

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

It comes down to a made-up mind to follow Christ, no matter the cost. It means that we will say I trust you Lord to know what to do, even when I am unsure.

Matt 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

It takes daily struggling to put God first by denying our fleshly will. It is a conscious decision to surrender our will. Praying daily asking God to guide our day and learning and knowing his word are ways of submitting to God.

This is why Paul said I die daily. He understood taking up the cross daily and living a life of surrender to God’s will and not his desires.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

By daily doing what we believe is the right thing and God’s will we are living sacrifices unto God. It takes commitment every day to say, God I want your will today and not my will. I submit myself to you today to do your will above my own. Surrender is not a one-time act of repentance, it goes beyond that one time. Although that is a good start, we must learn how to walk in the spirit.

Gal. 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Walking in the Spirit, by faith is the key to finding total surrender. It is an everyday choice to take up our cross and follow Jesus.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE: STILL WATERS

As our shepherd Jesus watches over us. There are so many deep things in just the few verses of the 23rd Psalm.

PSALM 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

The first three verses alone tell us we will not want, he will take us to a place where we can have what we need. Like a shepherd leads his sheep into green pastures, for them that is a place of abundance. In an open pasture there is less chance of attack from an enemy, because they are in the open where the shepherd can watch them.

Sheep are terrified of moving water. If they fall in, they will drown, because their fleece will soak up water. They will not drink from moving streams even when thirsty. The shepherd knows this about his sheep and finds still waters or dams up water to give a sense of safety and rest to his sheep.

He leads us to green pastures and still waters because he wants to refresh and renew us. Sheep are dumb and will drink from any non-moving water, even muddy or stagnate. This is why the shepherd has to keep constant eye on his sheep.

God is a hand’s on God, he watches over us twenty-four seven. He will lead and guide us into all truth if we depend on him.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Our strength is renewed when we wait for him to lead us to that place of rest. Then our strength is renewed. His path of righteousness is our strengthening place. If you have ever stood on the edge of a body of water, a lake for example and there is not a lot of people around. The breeze blows gently on your face and you feel like God is quieting all your anxiety and stress.  It is like peace washes over you, when you look for God in the gentle breeze beside the still water.

Anxiety and depression cannot overwhelm us when we find that place of peace in Jesus. He will destroy our emotional triggers and remove our anxiety, depressions and fears. Fear is not from God and he will remove all our fears, because he is our good shepherd. We have to be willing to give him our cares. He knows the things we think and fear. He hears the enemy whispering in our ears. He will counteract those lies if we seek for our shepherd to give us peace.

Only in him can we get out soul renewed and restored. He will strengthen us when we become weak. All the cares of this life that tries to drag us down, he will lift us up above them. When we find ourselves battle weary, we must find our way to a place of quiet and allow him to refresh and restore our souls.  This will give us what we need to keep moving on and doing the will of our good shepherd.

GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING EP440 FIGHTING FEAR

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  FIGHTING FEAR

In Job we find a verse that sums up why we should not walk in fear.

Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

The fear was bigger to us than our faith in God. When people focus on their fears, they will find a way to manifest. It’s like if you ever read your horoscope of the morning and it says something’s going to happen, if you truly believe that horoscopes are real then you’ll find a way to make that happen. Then they will say, my horoscope said that this thing was gonna happen. If you wait until the end of the day and read it, none of that happened, because it wasn’t what you focused on, the suggestion was not there to manipulate your thoughts.

The same goes for fear, if worry and anxiety is at the forefront of your thoughts, then the things you worry about will manifest in your life. Fear is from the enemy. He wants nothing more than to distract our focus from God. He loves to cause us to be caught up in fear. When we walk in fear we cannot hear God clearly. We spend a lot of energy being tormented by the enemy.

I John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

We will not fear if we can fully accept that Jesus has got us. Fear is the enemy trying to get us to lean on our own understanding and ideas. Fear causes us to read things into our situations that do not belong. And through the manipulation of the enemy we start to believe the fears. Anyone who has ever been bound by the spirit of fear or by anxiety will verify that it is torment. Which puts us where the enemy wants us. But we don’t have to live in torment. Jesus is our peace. We fight the battle in our minds. We fight the fiery darts of fear and anxiety with the word of God. Keeping our focus on our faith will go a long way in alleviating the lies that create fear.

2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

This says that fear doesn’t come from God. If it’s not from God then there is only one other place it could come from; our enemy. God gives us power to overcome the enemy. He gives us power to endure our trials. He gives us love and peace in our minds. We have a choice in the matter, whose report are we going to believe? God’s report says we have a sound mind. God’s report that says we have peace that passes all understanding.  Will we allow fear to overtake us and believe all the lies of the enemy. The battle is truly in our minds. We can be overcomers by quoting the word to the enemy. If you don’t know it well enough to quote it, open the word and read it to the enemy. When we resist the devil, he has to flee and take his fear and anxiety with him.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  PURPOSE OF A BELIEVER

I have a deep question today, what is our purpose as a believer?  The word says we are made in the image of God. There is a purpose to our lives once we have become children of God. I want to cover the purpose of being a believer. We each have a unique calling to be fulfill in our lives. God will lead us into that particular path for our lives.

However, on a more general note, we all have been filled with the power of God for a purpose. I want to go into those purposes a little with you this morning. We were created to know God personally. We were made in the image of God.  He wants nothing more than to have a relationship with us.

Hebrews 10:22: Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

James 4:8: Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

BECOMING LIKE CHRIST

Our purpose is to become more like Christ.  He desires for us to have unity of faith. He has equipped his body to have stability in him. We should know the truth and stand on it. It is not his wish for us to be tossed about with every wind of doctrine and deceit of man. We need to be more like Christ. He will empower us to do his will and fulfill our purpose.

Eph 4:11-15 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

Our purpose is to be witnesses and share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the world. This is where most of our purpose lies in bringing glory to our Father and to lead the lost to Christ. This is every Christian’s purpose. We have different ways of doing this through our unique purpose, but it all works together for the glory of our God.

In summary, our purpose is to work with other believers to bring honor to the name of Jesus. To witness to the lost and point them to Christ. He has equipped the ministry with offices that will function to keep the body on the right path as we go forth and show the world God’s love. We are all called to love and to serve. That love and service means different things for each person. However, the results will work the purpose of God in the earth and bring unity to the body of Christ and salvation to the lost.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  SPIRITUAL EYES

As believers God has opened our eyes that we can see the gospel enough to receive salvation. But most do not ever have their eyes opened any wider. They believe the stories in the bible to be true, but do not believe they can happen today.

I have seen miracles with my own eyes. I know that God can deliver and heal. I know that we are entering a time that God is going to show up with miracles, signs and wonders to shake loose the world from bondage. This is how we will reap the final large harvest for the kingdom of God.

I have personally seen broken bones healed instantly, I have seen a woman that was bowed at the waist and could not stand strait, be healed and she walked upright. I’ve seen large gashes in flesh grow together. Once when praying for a man to be healed, my grandfather had a large tumor of skin cancer fall off of a man’s face in his hand. The man was healed instantly. But we need to expect to see the miracles by our faith, or we will never see these things.

All of these things are seen with the physical eyes. I want to talk today about asking God to open your spiritual eyes that you may see in the realm of the spirit.

2 KGS 6:15-18 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

This servant was afraid and didn’t know what they were going to do. Because he was looking at the situation through natural eyes. The Syrian army surrounded them and things appeared to be grim, no way out. But Elisha prayed and God opened the spiritual eyes of his servant and he was amazed. Surrounding them were horses and chariots of fire. God had sent his angels to protect Elisha and his servant.

In the times in which we live, we need our spiritual eyes to be opened to see more clearly. But we should not ask if we are not ready to see, because things are not always rainbows and roses. Sometimes God shows us things our physical self doesn’t want to see. But in his wisdom, he knows that it is best for us to see. God is the God of miracle, but we have to believe when we pray or we will never see anything.

Think what comfort it was to Elisha’s servant to see the angel army. His fear went from sky high level to gone. This was all because God opened his eyes to see. We too can see the things of God more deeply. If we truly desire to see the miracles of God, he will not disappoint us.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  HEAR MY HEART

Sherri Easter many years ago sang a song that has an amazing sentiment. It is about being broken and not having words to even pray. One line says, “I’ll be quiet so you can hear my heart.” God hears the cry of our heart, he knows our fears, our worries and our pain. He knows how hard the path we are walking is for us to walk. Jesus walked the hardest path mankind ever walked. He understands our emotions and how easily we could be led by them if we are not careful. Although giving up is not an option, if we listened to our emotions, we may give up. That is why we have to let him listen to our hearts, so that he can reinforce our strength.

The world says, “Listen to your heart” which actually means listen to your emotions and do whatever you wish. The way of the world is to look out for yourself. This is really not listening to your heart. It is choosing a path that most of the time leads to destruction. This is walking by our emotions.

God can listen beyond the emotions to the desires of our heart. As children of God, he knows our heart, because he recreated them when we were born again. We just need to let that new heart talk to God in a quiet place. There are times we don’t feel strong enough to keep going. He knows our deepest desires to do the right thing. In the deeper moments of despair, our heart can speak to him more eloquently than our words can ever speak.

Ps 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

When we are under the shadow of the almighty, we are under his covering. The shadow of God covers us with protection and safety. He desires for us to get into the secret place with him, under his covering. And just sit quietly in his presence and let him listen to the deepest parts of our being, he will fill us with strength and peace. He gives us what we need most to keep going.  Waiting on God is what we must do to find our strength.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

When he hears our heart, he will renew our strength. He will lift us up and give us what we need to keep going.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

These verses emphasize God’s attentive ear and His willingness to respond to the cries of His people, providing comfort and hope during times of distress. I encourage you to take quiet time, and allow God to hear your heart.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  PSALM 91

There is a lot of powerful encouragement in the Psalms. Psalm 91 is something I read almost daily.  I thought since I have not had a lot of time to dig in the word this week I would read it to you.

Psalm 91:1-4 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

If we can make sure that we have a God connection that makes us feel safe, he is our protector and our shield. He is our covering of righteousness.

Psalm 91:5-16 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Read this for yourself and dwell on each of the verses. They tell us a lot about the character of our God. He will protect his people from the enemy. He created angels to watch over us. How important and special we must be if he sends his angels to protect us. Let that sink in for a moment.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORING

The title of today’s episode is: WISDOM

The book of James is full of wisdom. I have been doing a study of James it is about Christian character. James encourages us to be intentional in our faith walk. He reminds us to be thankful for the gifts we have been given. Tells us to not be double minded. Explains how damaging our words can be if we don’t guard our tongue.

Wisdom is defined as having experience and knowledge about a subject. It is an understanding that comes from knowing and learning from living something. In other words to have wisdom about a Christian walk, we have to actually walk out our faith. Example: A farmer has farm wisdom, he understands by his experience and instincts how to go about farming. Someone from the city would not have a clue about farm life.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Gaining wisdom comes from God. He has shared a lot of wisdom in his word. The book of Proverbs is known as the wisdom book.  It is full of practical wisdom. Today I want to focus on James 3:13-18

JAMES 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

If you have true wisdom it comes from God and will be meek. Our words will not harm but bring forth healing. Our understanding of God’s ways and how to live a Christian life is Godly wisdom. We will not be arrogant acting like we know everything. Wisdom is understanding we will never know everything, but we can learn every day.

James 3:14-16 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

There is another type of wisdom that is not from God. This wisdom is the wisdom of the world. It is earthly, sensual and devilish. It doesn’t bring peace and healing but envy and strife. It causes confusion. Verse 14 tells us to lie not against the truth.  In other words, this is a warning to the hypocrite trying to say they are a Christian but are walking in the wisdom of the world. This is why the word of God tells us to come out from among those that are worldly. Because we do not want our wisdom to become the wisdom of the things of the world.

Wisdom of the world is sensual or about physical gratification. The wisdom of the world is devilish. Which means that we walk in the ways of evil.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Wisdom from above will give us traits that make us soul winners. Godly wisdom is pure. It is peaceable, gentle, easy to implore or pled with someone, full of mercy and good fruit. If we have wisdom we will walk with the fruit of the spirit.

James 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

If we have wisdom from God we will be without partiality or pretense. When people walk in man’s wisdom they may claim a moral standard but the worlds actions do not line up with their claim. The wise will sow peace by the Spirit of God.

The word says ee that winneth souls is wise, we do this by walking in Godly wisdom and letting our light shine.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  Faith

Good Morning, today I want to touch on the foundation of a believer. We must first develop enough faith to believe that there is a God and his word is true. We must believe that he wants to save us from our sins. Developing faith is the beginning of having Godly wisdom.

HEB 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Without faith we cannot please God. He wants us to trust him. He wants us to believe in him and his word.  Anyone who comes to him must believe or have faith that he is God. Some do not believe that God exists. He is a rewarder of those who believe in Him. Jesus desires for us to have faith and trust him. He will pour out blessings on his people.

Faith mean that we see things with our hearts that we cannot yet see with our eyes. We have to call things that are not as though they already are in our tangible world; like Abraham.

Our faith in God gives us a heart to help others. Our faith is a fruit or byproduct of God’s Spirit indwelling in us. We walk by this faith which helps us to grow and be a light to others.

I want to be found walking by faith and not by how the enemy would spin the truth to make things appear. We can not rely on how things seem, we have to see them through God’s eyes.  We need to see them through the eyes of faith. Yes it may seem scary, but faith says that God will not leave us to deal with our troubles and trials alone.

Faith means that no matter what we are facing, we trust him. He will not fail us.

WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING

THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE:  LIFT US UP

It doesn’t matter how far human beings sink, God is able to reach down and lift them out of their sin. As long as they do not go so far as to blasphemy against the spirit of God or the Holy Ghost. Many Christians have an epiphany moment where they cried out to God and he reached down and lifted them out of the pit.

Psalm 40:1-2  I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

God will establish us. He will make sure the foundation under our feet is a solid foundation.

Is 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

We have no reason to fear, God is with us. He will give us strength and will give us the help we need. He will lift us up or hold us up to keep us from falling. We can be encouraged to know that God is with us.

He turns our mourning into joy. He gives us good things to replace the bad things. He gives us beauty for ashes. When the enemy tries to burn down our lives and we are left to mourn over what may have been. God is right there to give us peace and encourage us that he will give us a different outcome.

Is 63:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Our lives are meant to glorify God. We cannot glorify him if we are sad and depressed all the time. I am not saying we will not walk through times of saddness and mourning. That is just life, but some people choose to live their lives in that state all the time. We were never meant to be void of joy. God will give us joy, if we will delight in him and give him praise. God will give us strength in our struggles.

We can be sure he will never abandon us to be overtaken by the enemy. God is there, all we have to do is call on his name and he will lift us up.
