WELCOME TO GOD FOCUS THIS MORNING
THE TITLE FOR TODAY’S EPISODE: SIN’S BITE
Long before Adam and Eve took a bite from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they had been bitten by the serpent. He already caused Eve to doubt God with his poisonous lies. Then she listened while he told her that God didn’t want her to have knowledge because that would make her equal to God. She allowed his lies to soak into her spirit and soon she was eating of the tree. But she was bitten first.
The same thing happened at the tower of babble; Satan convinced them if they built a tower high enough to reach the heavens they would be like God. But God saw their arrogance and confounded their language. The building of the tower ceased because they could not communicate.
I was recently reminded by a friend that lambs are immune to snake bite poison. It is actually used in anti-venom drugs. The blood of Jesus destroys the poison of the serpent satan. All the sins he causes us to commit can be neutralized by Jesus’ blood. If we ask for forgiveness.
We all have sinned and fallen short. We have all been bitten. But many of us lived to carry on. Why do some die when bitten by the snake (satan) and some recover and live?
1 They may have received what is called a dry bite. Little poison is found in a dry bite. Just like the enemy sometimes causes us to stumble, but it wasn’t enough to destroy us.
2 We can get bitten but pray and ask for forgiveness and Jesus’ blood will cleanse us from the venom of sin.
3 We often are attacked by the enemy. We can build up a tolerance against his poison and lies as long we apply the blood.
4 Then there are those who the venom is strong. They yield to it. They don’t want anti-venom. They enjoy the sin so much that they cling to it. Until they become so saturated by poison they cannot find their way out. They die full of the enemy’s venom.
Numbers 21: 5-9 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. 6 And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. 7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee; pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
People think that our words doesn’t have an effect on our lives. That they have no power. God despised murmuring and complaining. Because the Israelites complained against God. Their negative words could be considered a type of poison. God sent among the people fiery serpents.
Many died from the bites of the fiery serpents God sent among them. The people repented and asked for God’s help. He told Moses to place a brazen serpent on a pole and lift it up. When the people saw it they were healed. Some died before they could get redemption, the poison was too strong and overtook them.
Moses lifting the serpent up on a cross is a type and shadow of Jesus being lifted up above the earth. He took on the sin of mankind to heal us from the bite of the evil one. Many today think that Baal worship or satan worship is something that was only in bible times. But many would be shocked to find out that they are more in number than first believed. They do not all go around looking like evil. Some put on a sweet smile and lead what appears on the outside, normal lives. They hide their evil away from the world, in dark places and hidden lairs of death and evil.
But make no mistake that God will have the last say. The enemy may have his say for a small season, but the blood of Jesus will always be a covering of protection for God’s people.
