My name is David Scholton and I am founder of Godfocus Ministries and Godfocus Internet Church. My mother church is the Baptist Church of Beaufort in Beaufort, SC where I am ordained in the gospel ministry. Born in north-western Pennsylvania, USA, I was blessed to learn about Jesus early in life. As a child my parents took me to church, I attended vacation bible school and participated in other church activities. I very naturally fell in love with Jesus as a boy but lost touch with Him as my family embarked on a military lifestyle and we all quit going to church. I have always loved Jesus and longed to know Him better. But misguided searching, inappropriate lifestyles, and the abuse of alcohol and drugs resulted in my embracing one so-called spirituality after the next, all of them pagan, never finding what I was looking for until 1998. While leading a group of spiritual healers, mostly pagan, I had several religious experiences. The first was in the cave on the island of Patmos, Greece where John received the book of Revelations from the Lord. There I felt the Holy embrace of God and the gratitude of being His son. Two later events included Jesus coming to me in meditation and saying "Follow Me!" I remember during one of these experiences Jesus embracing me and I cried for joy out of pure love for our Savior. These experiences and enrolling in a Christian College lead to my becoming born again and saved at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, at an altar call by the pastor, Rev. Jerry Falwell. Later I joined and was baptized at the Baptist Church of Beaufort, SC. Shortly thereafter, while attending a revival at the Baptist Church of Beaufort I was called by the Lord to become a pastor and I enrolled in seminary. Later I was licensed as a Minister of the Gospel and made a missionary by my mother church. Compared to many, I am still a young Christian. Thanks be to God I have grown rather quickly in my relationship with Him. Having Southern Baptist roots from a loving and moderate church helped form my initial beliefs. Moreover, the Baptist Church of Beaufort, pastored by one of the greatest men I have ever known, Dr. Harry Rowland Jr., has taught me a compassionate, loving Christianity that I cherish. But the Lord's gifts keep coming. I have had the opportunity to experience and include a full gospel form of worship and praise into my Christianity. Now, I believe in taking the black off the white, in other words, the literal translation of the gospel and applying it to all aspects of my daily life. My life's goal is to work for the Lord in any capacity He chooses. My experience is that He can literally change us and give our lives real meaning that won't diminish with the ups and downs of life. The Lord is real as are His gifts and promises. I pray that Godfocus Internet Church will help each one of us grow closer to the Lord and enable us to help show the way. Severe chronic illness has made serving the Lord quite challenging due to lack of energy and stamina. That is one reason I started Godfocus. I could minister from my home using technology and give back what has been so freely given to me. But the Lord's promise of healing keeps me whole and allows me to not only continue ministry, but expand it. Since acceptance of the healing power of the Lord, and agreeing that he wants me to be healed, my life continues to improve. The best thing, and the most important is that as a result of everything, particularly illness, my relationship with the Lord has improved. Not only that, I believe that illness has taught me a compassion and understanding I would not otherwise have learned. I would like to do great things for the Lord but if I never reach a point of what is considered 100% good health, that will be alright with me because I believe what Paul states in 2nd Corinthians 12:7-10:
You do not have to have dramatic, religious experiences like I did to become a Christian. Nor do you have to be sick. This is what it took to get me out of the cultish, pagan, and evil lifestyle I was trapped in. I respect people who come to faith in gentler ways. You can believe without as much proof as I needed. The goals are believing in the one true God, developing a personal relationship with His son and our savior Jesus Christ, and letting the Holy Spirit guide our lives. Whatever road you take that leads to Jesus is the right one. Yours in Christ, Rev.
